Eucharistic ministers help distribute communion at Mass. They go through a background check and safe environment training so that they can also bring communion to those who are sick or home bound. There is also on-going formation about the spirituality and responsibilities of this ministry.
The names of Eucharistic ministers are presented to the Bishop for approval and commissioning. A person must be at least 16 years old and fully initiated into the Catholic Church in order to become a Eucharistic minister. Tabernacle Ministers are Eucharistic Ministers who also setup for Mass or any other sacraments that might be occurring at Mass.
